In a city rich with cinematic and theatrical influence, it is no surprise that New York City is home to dozens of hotspots to catch a summer flick under the stars. From public parks to scenic rooftops, you are sure to find a showing virtually every night somewhere between Manhattan and Brooklyn. Here are a few locations showcasing everything from classics to new releases this summer. 

 

Bryant Park 

Bryant Park offers movie-goers free screenings every Monday night, to kick off your week the right way. Hester Street Fair brings vendors from all over the city to provide guests with a flood of delicious movie snacks and drinks to enjoy before and during the show. Some films in the line up this summer are Anchorman, Bad Boys, and Coming to America.  

 

Rooftop Reds

Just across the bridge in Brooklyn, Rooftop Reds offers a rooftop vineyard screening, complete with pizza. For a ticket cost of $20, you get 2 slices of pizza and a seat among a unique ambiance with great views. Wine from their vineyard is also available to purchase. Rooftop Reds will be showcasing movies throughout the summer until Halloween, every Thursday weather permitting. 

 

Parklife

Parklife is an outdoor space totaling over 4,000 square feet featuring unique contemporary wall art, live music events, great food and drinks, and outdoor movies every Wednesday night this summer after sunset. Even better, the movies are free! Check out their line up of classics like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Trading Places, The Princess Bride, and more from now throughout September. 

 

Randall’s Island Park

Randall’s Island Park Alliance is dedicated to providing free, family-friendly, public events throughout the seasons to provide New Yorkers the chance to explore the park and all of its diverse offerings. This summer, Randall’s Island is hosting Sunday movie nights with free games, crafts, and popcorn for all who attend. Bring the kids to enjoy family-oriented movies like Tangled, or hire a sitter and catch last seasons hottest releases like Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse and Crazy Rich Asians

 

Brooklyn Bridge Park

On Pier 1’s Harbor View Lawn, the Brooklyn Bride Park presents the 20th anniversary of Movies with a View. Every Thursday in the summer, guests can gather on the lawn in front of Manhattan’s infamous skyline as it illuminates. Snacks and drinks, both alcoholic and non, are available to purchase and live music before the showing adds to the summer atmosphere.

 

Summer movie showings offer New Yorkers with a different vantage of the city, away from the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps. Take a break and enjoy a relaxing night under the stars with good food, great movies, and even better company.
